Cousy (Bob) is born in New York City.

August 9, 1928

The son of Joseph and Juliette (Corlet) Cousy, Bob Cousy grows up in Brooklyn and on Long Island, graduates from Holy Cross College, and, although not originally drafted by the Celtics, joins the team in 1950.* He becomes the biggest star of the newly-formed National Basketball Association, is called “The Houdini of the Hardwood” for his sleight-of-hand ball-handling, and helps the team win six championships before retiring in 1963. Cousy goes on to coach at Boston College and in the NBA, serve as a color commentator for Celtics, and continues to live in his adopted hometown of Worcester.
